Week 2 QB roundup

Here's my rundown for the past week:

1)  Colin Kaepernick - If the guy doesn't develop some more accuracy, he's never going to get better.  He's a freak athlete, but he just seems to overthrow everything.  Jay Cutler did a really great job bringing his team back, but Kaepernick was a huge part of why Cutler even had a chance.

2)  Andrew Luck - I've mentioned this to a few people, and I continue to feel that we are watching a non-whiny Donovan McNabb.  Luck and McNabb are very similar in terms of athletic ability.  Luck does not seem to have the propensity to show up to camp bloated claiming he "put on muscle," which works in his favor.  Luck also has a pretty good arm and makes some great throws.  However, Luck bottom third of the league in terms of accuracy.  He leaves too many yards and points on the field by being inaccurate.  This doesn't mean he isn't really good, it just means that he is going to struggle to maximize his opportunities until he develops better short to mid-range accuracy.

3)  Aaron Rodgers - Good rebound week.  I bet he's glad the Packers gave Jordy Nelson all that money, though.  This was the first time in a long time that I wasn't quite sure whether Rodgers was making a receiver better, or the receiver was making Rodgers look better than he is.  Nelson was amazing, and thus Rodgers also looked amazing.

4)  Andy Dalton - On my list again, and for all the right reasons.  Dalton looked good even without AJ Green for most of the game.  That is one heck of a team, and is a Super Bowl favorite if Dalton maintains consistency.

5)  Matt Ryan - This is what happens when Matty Checkdown tries to play dink and dunk against a team with a legit defense.  Terrible game, terrible decision making, terrible outcome.

Sorry for a lot of the repeats from last week.  I don't get to watch every game, and I'd rather not comment on guys I didn't see play.

  1. I only saw Kaepernick of this crowd, and you're right about the accuracy. This is nothing new, but I'm always struck by it. He looked pretty good in the first half, when his receivers were leaving their feet and twisting around and grabbing passes (Boldin and Crabtree and Davis have good hands), but yeah, that's not necessarily sustainable, and I guess that's what happened in the second half (after I went to sleep). I hope he can keep improving the accuracy, because he's so fantastic at times.

  2. i don't know why but i've pretty much always disliked kap. sure he's won us some games with his legs (green bay...each time) but i can't seem to get on board. he kisses his biceps after he runs into the end zone, sweet dude, sometimes you got to stop with the antics and just play qb. rodgers is the exception, but mostly because he throws 35/5 each year and has a super bowl win. i'm thinking of cam newton being the other, just shut up dude. diva receivers do that shit and they have all but left the game (TO, Chad whoever he is now). The last 2 years, kaps had a top 2 defense, this year he doesn't and i really think he's going to have a very medicore year. Andrew Luck is another qb a lot of "experts" annointed as a star this year, though he is good and can be great, it's a little too early in my opinion. we will see if he turns it around. Rodgers looked like rodgers of old...and it's because they attacked all sides of the field!!! crazy! Dalton is a baller...hopefully he can actually win a playoff game or have a game in the playoffs where is qbr is about 40.00. Matt Ryan...this is a tough one...i think this might be who he is and really you can't argue with the results. He has 1 very good deep threat (j jones) one if not injured is good ( white) and a lot of quick little back out of the backfield. I really can't argue with the falcons game plan....would you rather have a gunslinger (newton, kap, rg III, rodgers, etc) who have excellent arms but can be inconsistent and force throws or ryan? 50/50 would be my guess. look at tonights game, as i'm writing this ryan has a 88% completion percentage, 135 qbr rating, 221 yards in the 1st half, 2 tds and 8-10 for 121 and a td to his star receiver....goddamn good game

  3. Yup. Great game tonight. Matt Ryan is pretty good. I promise I won't complain about him this week.

  4. I think Kap is fascinating. He seems a bit edgy, but he also doesn't seem to give a rip if people see him that way. Oodles of promise, but needs to develop to be more than a decent player on a boom-bust offense relying on what has been a strong defense.

  5. Rg iii didnt care what people thought of his play either and now most likely will miss another year and could be his last as a teams affirmed starting qb. Kap just pisses me off. He doesnt have that killer instinct but that could also be on the coor
